Denmark this winter is meeting, what is being called, a major invasion of Pygmy Owls (Glausidium passerinum) the smallest owl in Europe. And with more than 20 observations on Sjælland the part of Denmark close to Sweden, it is indeed an invasion, attracting even British twitchers. | |
Last time the Danes were experiencing something
remotely like this, was during the winter 1974-75 where 7 Pygmy Owls turned up. Since
then, all through a period of 25 years only five have been reported. The latest, one single bird back i 1993.
This particular bird is seen in the cool afternoonlight on Sunday January the 23rd in Jægersborg Dyrehave just 10 kilometers, (6 miles) north of Copenhagen. |
