| Mute Swan (Cygnus olor) with its 14 kg is the heaviest bird in the Danish fauna. 4000 pairs are breeding here though during wintertime. Danish waters house 40 % of the North European population at estimated 160.000 birds. This beautiful bird, by the way our national bird / state bird since 1984 (after a vote on national TV), suffered near extermination here, with only 4 - 6 pairs left before its preservation in 1926. |
